PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS

About My Method

Another summer and they STILL CAN'T swim?

Thank you for reviewing my quote. I'm glad you are searching and not waiting another summer. I teach any time all year as long as the pool is warm.  Please read this carefully.

The service I provide is driving to your home/community and teaching your children in your own pool, or pool of choice. I take one student at a time, one after another, when there are two or more at a pool. I have done this for 60 years, have also taught many special needs children of every dynamic over the decades and am a retired credentialed Special Ed Specialist grades K-12  O.C. Dept. Education, now retired.

Learning must be 5 CONSECUTIVE LESSONS PER WEEK to grasp all motor skills, and to progress, gain endurance and independence!  A child knowing how to get to the side is only HALF of it. The other half is having the endurance to last long enough to get there! You want your child to be able hold their breath, kick, and last to make it to the side or step, and FAST, especially if you are not around.

Humans are born with a swimming reflex. A reflex is an automatic and in-born response to a stimulus not involving higher cognitive centers in the brain. Like many reflexes, it is for survival and defense. Approximately for the first two years of life, while taken underwater vertically just under the surface, children automatically hold their breath and kick.   If taken advantage of, we have natural swimmers, who can not only save themselves, but have the capacity to endure for distances.

I RECOMMEND 10 LESSONS [2 weeks M thru F],

especially if you have a pool at home!  It is the daily repetition in my method that allows motor integration to take place, and gives students a solid swimming foundation for life.

$165 total price 1 week

Lessons are ONE on ONE;  5 DAYS per week--NOT LESS, and for 15 MIN per day --NOT MORE . This is Brain/Motor Input-Saturation and physical Exhaustion.  It is the best insurance you'll ever buy!  One or two LESSONS A WEEK WON'T do the job.

The Pool MUST be 88-92F. Children cannot last in cold water.  They will expend their energy trying to keep warm. Temp makes tremendous difference in performance & endurance.

LONGER TIMES do not improve motor acquisition:  REPETITION DOES!  So DAILY PERFECT PRACTICE for shorter times has greater Impact and Results! The First week they learn how and where to go; and the second week, they gain endurance to last long enough to get to a place. I DON'T use floaties, nor do I teach kids to float on their back and stay there!  That takes 3-4+ weeks, when they can learn 12 THINGS IN ONE WEEK and get OUT of the pool!  WHY FLOAT THERE?

This is the best insurance policy you will ever buy! You won't have to take your children anywhere else, and pay for more lessons over and over, summer after summer, without results!

You will get what you pay for and IT'S WORTH EVERY PENNY!

Done correctly, learning to swim is not a simple $5 a lesson job. Think! Even swim clubs charge $20 - 30 a lesson, BUT with 2-4 kids in a group, and it's only for one or two days a week! That is so you will pay all summer without much progress and be forced to come back, year after year; and your kids STILL won't swim independently!

There are plenty of swim instructors out there at a low cost, but they don't have competent strategies for any child at any level, plus the methods 'floating around' [pardon the pun] are incomplete, and their success rate is minimal.

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING. For many instructors, it is just a fun summer job. To me, it is LIFE AND DEATH, and my life's work.

I understand it is an investment;  however, it is the best insurance policy you will ever buy! You won't have to take them anywhere else, and pay for more lessons over and over, summer after summer, without results!

Consider saving for lessons to have at least 5 consecutive days. My swimmers not only learn to be safe, they will have skill and endurance. Most of my 3 & 4 yr-old students can swim at least 3 different strokes, and age 5 can swim up to 6 different strokes. Many age 7 & 8 join swim team. If you have a child age 1 yr or younger, you may go in with them, and I will show you what to do in one week of lessons. This way you can work on one or two things every time you swim. Those children OVER age 1 year advance more quickly with me teaching them, and a parent can go in on the last lesson to learn how to continue recreationally. Your child will swim the first day and experience success every day after that.

All my students swim and have success! None fail. Better they cry a few days than you cry the rest of your life! They can get over crying, resisting, and not wanting to go under water in the beginning, but if they drown, you don't have a choice--it's over.

Better they cry than die.

If you are looking for someone to show you how to play and never go under, I'm not that one. I'm the one who takes them under, counts, guides and directs, and turns them into swimmers!

I recommend 10 lessons [2 weeks M-F], especially if you have a pool at home! Keep in mind that your 1 1/2 yr old to teenage non-swimming child can be an independent swimmer in 10 lessons, and will have a safe, fun summer.  It is the daily repetition in my method that allows motor integration to take place, and gives students a solid swimming foundation for life.

There is no such thing as muscle memory!  That is just a new moniker for CONDITIONED RESPONSE. If muscles could remember, then paraplegic and quadriplegic students could still move.  All memory comes from the brain and is sent to the muscles via the nervous system.

This is all about repeating an action until it becomes automatic.

Lessons once or twice per week will not accomplish anything. It does the opposite! It sets the motor pattern on that day each week where it remains until the next week--no progress. With me, they learn quickly, regardless of crying or opposition, and get over all that in a few days, then begin enjoying their success.

If you don't call me, call someone! ---because 98% of all children who drown are under 5, and do so in their own pool! [according to the National Safety Commission] It won't cost you anything to ask me questions, or to call any of my recommends listed above. Those parents will be happy to answer any questions about me and how it all works together for good.

 Recommendations provided upon request.

 Have a safe, fun summer.

All the best, Miss Cheryl

Swimming Is Fun!

I work alone, and teach your children one at a time at your pool, or pool of choice, provided it is within a 12 mile radius of Buena Park, Orange Co. and extending to L.A. Co. California. If you do not have a pool, or live beyond my driving radius, the other option is coming to my home pool, where Mom & I have taught since 1967.

I schedule lessons city to city in consecutive order so I don't waste time on the road.   I'm only one person and do my best to accommodate best times requested by families.

Once again, lessons are scheduled for 5 days Mon. thru Fri. and  one week at a time, then paid one week at a time on Mon. by cash or check.  For best results, you cannot miss!  If you cancel or do not show up, you lose that lesson and money.  If I cancel for any reason, I will refund you that lesson, or give you a makeup lesson.

Thank you
